QSB 1813 Site Surveying

Lecturer: Wong Jee Khai

Surveying is the art and science of measuring angles, distances and positions (northing, easting and elevation), on or near the surface of the earth. First is to determine the relative positions of existing points or objects.
The student will study both the theory and practical application of Linear Surveying, Levelling Angle Measurement and the Measurement of Buildings. In addition the student will develop the ability to use specialist surveying equipment to complete land surveying and building measurement tasks.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply the principles of linear surveying to measure buildings and to solve practical survey problems
  2. Undertake the field work and computation for levelling applications such as flying levelling, longitudinal sectioning and contouring
  3. Set up and use a theodolite to measure angles
  4. Work as a member of a team to carry out a field survey
  5. Produce a written report detailing fieldwork, observations, calculations and results for practical surveying applications
